THE FLESH AND BLOOD SHOW - Cyril Ornadel - "Come And Join The Show" (1972)

Director Peter Walker is known in some circles as one of the finest exponents of UK horror, and his film "The Flesh And Blood Show" is everything the title implies, but not all that much else! After making a few smut flicks like "School For Sex," and a thriller called "Die Screaming, Marianne," this was Peter's first real venture into horror! Other titles under his belt are things like "House Of Whipcord," "Schizo," and "The Comeback!"

A Group of mostly out of work young actors converge on an abandoned theatre at the end of a pier in the middle of nowhere to rehearse for some weird project that not really any of them know anything about! One of the taglines makes for the prefect description: "An Appalling Amalgam of Carnage and Carnality!" I couldn't agree more!

Jenny (Scars of Dracula) Hanley has the role of Julia Dawson! Take note how Director Walker is already playing with your mind! Julia is smoking in a posted non smoking area, but it's okay because the sign is reversed even though it's not a reflection in a mirror!

There's plenty of the "Flesh" part of the title, and the boob count is pretty high!

Obviously some very creepy shit has happened around this place before, but if you really wanted to keep people out, wouldn't you have boarded it up?

In this, his first filmed role, David Howey's character has a bizarre sense of humour!

I think Joan Jett would have been very good in the role of the librarian!

Olde newspapers give clues as to what potential problems may be incurred at the theatre if the kids continue to stick around!

I think it's a standard policy that if you're a woman in some weird environment and you're undressing, and you hear some strange noises, the most common reaction is to just keep on disrobing!

Turns out it wasn't a killer at all, just some old distinguished pervert! Oh, excuse me young lady, I'll just turn away, so you can get dressed!

Everybody needs one of these things!!

Time for the 7th inning stretch!! C'Mon everybody, get your butts up off the floor!

So what the Hell was this show all about, "The Flintstones?" That's Robin (Computer Killers) Askwith in the middle as Simon! Robin is still quite active in film today!

Not everybody's dead yet, there's still time left for some girl/girl action between Judy (Twins Of Evil) Matheson and Luan (Lust For A Vampire) Peters!

I like this shot of the seats in the theatre, gum under the seats, and all!

This warning came at the beginning of the movie, so now it's time to pry those cheap crumpled up cardboard 3D glasses out of your sweaty mitts!

Patrick (Black 13) Barr is the thespian gone mad!(If you want to fill in the blanks, go to Netflix, but don't expect it to be in 3D!)

The very interesting Guzanos-like music in "The Flesh And Blood Show" was created by the very talented Cyril Ornadel! Cyril's first soundtrack recording was in 1953, when he wrote a song called "Hey Presto" for a film called "The Limping Man," but not this one, "Hey Presto!" He also wrote the classic song "If I Ruled The World" that has been used in more than one film! Cyril passed away almost exactly one year ago at the age of 86!

20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH / Columbia Pictures - 1957

It's Monster Monday with Tabonga, here at The Dungeon!.. Our feature is one that I was lucky enough to see at the theater at the time, and, I loved it! The first monster movie I ever saw at a theater was BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS in 1953 at age five, another Harryhausen masterpiece. Above is a British card where the tagline seems a little misleading... It was a manned mission to Venus, not just a satellite shot into space, which would be either IT CONQUERED THE WORLD or ZONTAR, THE THING FROM VENUS!

Soooooo, wif'out any further adieu, lets get this boat a rollin'... You can push the big red 'GO' button there next to the little green arrow, NOW, Ralphie The Tarantula! Here's our scientifically informative soundclip (with screams) for... 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH!

> What a great beginning, where the huge rocket crashes into the sea off the coast of Italy and the local fishermen are able to rescue the two survivors. Harryhausen space hardware was always top notch!

Then, we watch as the thing sinks beneath the waves...

Thomas Browne (THE BRAIN FROM PLANET AROUS) Henry plays General McIntosh. Here, he watches this contraption awkwardly simulate how the inner planets orbit the Sun. I remember those silly things, our school had one!

There has always been a lot of button pushing and switch flipping going on in sci-fi movies. The trick is to make it seem as if you are actually doing something real! The panicked look is helpful.

Little Pepe finds a container washed up on the beach, and, it has what looks like a giant maggot inside!

Unfortunately, this poor crewman (Arthur Space) contracted a bizarre flesh-eating disease while they were on Venus!

In the meantime, Pepe has sold the Ymir egg to a travelling American scientist and his daughter, Marisa, played by Joan Taylor. Joan also played Carol Marvin in EARTH vs THE FLYING SAUCERS and was in the MEN INTO SPACE TV series.

Just study this still for a moment and notice how awesome it is!

Harryhausen's original design for the Venusian creature was a giant cyclops, similar to the one he later used in THE 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD.

A helicopter is brought in to drop this big net over the monster!

It's then drugged, transported and hooked up to that scientifical apparatus there.

The devices keeping the Ymir unconscious blow to high heaven, allowing it to awaken and bust out of the joint!

William (THE DEADLY MANTIS) Hopper plays Colonel Calder. Here, he makes a gutsy move by crashing his car into the growing Ymir in an attempt to slow it down! William was the son of Hedda Hopper, and, died of a stroke at age 55.

Ymir leaps out of the way just before the bazooka shell hits!

It's a bit of a 'feel good' flick at times...

Sadly though, we all know what happens next... Goodnight, sweet Ymir!

What a great classic pulp novel this is from AMAZING STORIES!

CONQUEST - Claudio Simonetti - "A Terrifying Challenge Beyond Imagination!" (1983)

"CONQUEST!" Is it the past or is it the future? "CONQUEST" is goremeister director Lucio Fulci's foray from Giallo into supernatural splatter sword and sandaltry! So what would you expect, it's a mess in more ways than one, and I can't think of a better film to do on the night of our pal Zillagord's graduation! It's prefect on multiple levels!!

Andrea (Augh! Augh!) Occhipinti is Ilias, the future King of the world or something like that! It's really not all that important! Andrea turned his hand to producing in the mid 90's to the present day! His last production was on a Sean Penn vehicle last year titled "This Must Be The Place!"

This is Ilias's most formidable foe, an evil witch of a woman also with her own plans for the remainder of civilization! It doesn't really look like there's that much left except a few smoke machines, so I'm not sure what the big deal is! Sabrina (White Cannibal Queen - Daughter Of The Jungle) Siani has the role of witchy bitch queen Ocron!

This dream sequence of the man with no face and a magic electronic bow is as good a place as any to tell you that the Goblinesque music for this film was created by a cat named Claudio Simonetti, the former keyboardist for none other than Goblin, who of course worked on Dario Argento's "Deep Red," "Suspiria," and "Phenomena!" Here's a good one, Simonetti originally wanted to name the band 'Oliver!' This stuff is not anything you'd ever hear in any Hercules movie, that's for sure, and the second part of this little clip sounds like "Guzanos!" The music is great and creates even that much more confusion of where and what the Hell is going on!

If I'm not mistaken, break dancing was quite popular in 1983!

This is Mace! Mace is anti-social, and likes animals more than he likes humans! Mace is played by Mexican strongman Jorge Rivero whose first film in 1965 was called "Neutron Traps The Invisible Killers," where he had the masked role of El Enmascarado de Oro! Jorge also had one of the co-starring roles in John Wayne's "Rio Lobo!"

"CONQUEST" is kind of a buddy movie, they don't really seem to know where they are going or what they are doing, but they both really like Ilias's magic bow!

There are lots of freaky otherworld creatures.......

....frozen fuggin' mummies, and giant turtles are just some of the things they must endure on their journey!

These guys get attacked numerous times by the minions of whatever is deeper than Hell, but their new found friendship somehow allows them to continue onward in search of a dream!

As seen here, you can tell the bow is pretty cool and also very effective. There's only one problem, it does run out of arrows after a while, and there always seems to be more bad guys around the next corner!

Everybody has a favorite movie, and I'm sure "CONQUEST" is on somebody's list for shots like this if nothing else!

There's a buttload of violence, gore and nudity in "CONQUEST" and it does carry an 'R' rating! In this scene, supreme bad thing Zora, delivers Ilias's head to Ocron!!

Now you know why she wears a mask!

After inheriting the bow, Mace takes care of business....

.......And walks off into the sunset ready to face the next challenge!

Ask yourself, do you really want to see these gals naked? And look at the size of the thighs on Mace, and No, there are no motorcycles in this film! See, now you agree, it all makes sense!
