A FIFTIES SPACE CADET DUNGEON SALUTE TO 2017!

This is my last post of 2017, since these great space cadets saved the world numerous times in the past from space invaders and goons on Earth, I'm letting them give a goodbye salute to 2017! And hopefully, they will keep up the good work and protect us from 2018! All I can say is... THANK YOU, YOU CRAZY, BRAVE GUYS AND GALS!!

Here are Judd Holdren, Aline Towne, Gregory Gaye and Craig Kelly from COMMANDO CODY: SKY MARSHAL OF THE UNIVERSE. They will go anywhere in space to right a wrong!!

Let's give a big hand to Ed Kemmer, Lyn Osborn, Nina Bara and Ken Mayer from SPACE PATROL, it's always great to see this very popular gang in action!

Don't forget the gang of Frankie Thomas, Al Markim, Jan Merlin and Jack Grimes in TOM CORBETT, SPACE CADET, love this shot as they analyze a situation in space...

ATOM SQUAD starred Harrison Sheppard, Robert Courtleigh, Robert Hastings and Bram Nossen, they are a top-secret planetary defense organization faced with challenges from evildoers and malfunctioning machines alike!

Here's ROD BROWN OF THE ROCKET RANGERS getting some help putting his gloves on! Stars Cliff Robertson!, Bruce Hall, Jack Weston! and John Boruff - On 22nd-Century Earth, the Rocket Rangers are a celestial defense organization, battling interplanetary evil from their headquarters on Omega Base!

Here's our Galaxy Bureau gang in FLASH GORDON solving another epic adventure, this time on Earth! Stars Steve Holland, Irene Champlin, Joseph Nash and Henry Beckman whose job is the stability of the universe!

And then, we have the super popular ROCKY JONES, SPACE RANGER starring Richard Crane, Sally Mansfield, Scotty Beckett and Robert Lyden. Cruising the galaxy in the Orbit Jet, the Space Rangers defend Earth against space-bound evil doers!

CAPTAIN Z-RO gets the last word - Hey all you bad guys out there... Better watch out! This fun series stars Roy Steffens, Bruce Haynes, Jack Cahill and Richard Glyer.

Okay, Eegah!! is here tomorrow and I'll be back on Monday to start the new year, you little Space Cadets out there!!

ROCKY JONES, SPACE RANGER-Space Ranger-space ranger...! My favorite, with those funky filmed-in-Germany FLASH GORDON shows close behind!

(Best thing is that these shows are in the public domain, which made for happy visits to the dollar store when one-buck DVDs were new!)

Long live old school miniatures and model-work! And matte paintings and forced-perspectives! Back when movies and TV shows were great! And men like Albert Whitlock and L.B. Abbott and Doug Trumbull ruled the FX industry!

I have to agree with Anonymous: Rocky Jones rules! And it is in public domain, and I've been able to watch it and Raumpatroulle on YouTube. This is how all movies over 20 years old should be treated!

Thanks for another great year! I've seen a lot of cool movies and TV shows thanks to you.

Here's hoping for an even better 2018!

Randall:

I didn't mean to put down the excellent CG-FX in your films, or in most films for that matter. God knows, my wife and I have watched our DVD of AVATAR a hundred times at least, and that whole film is one big CG fest! But I and most of my friends "back in the day" created all of our visual effects with miniatures, scale dioramas, paintings, stop-motion, and forced perspective shots. Some of my FX seemed to "blow people away" at that time (1970s-80s), however with only one exception, my films from 1989 until today had FX that were laughed at! I got over it, eventually. lol

Since I neither have or know CG-FX or the people who do them, I have shifted my filmmaking more toward Outer Limits/Twilight Zone type stories, where FX of almost any kind is minimal or not needed at all. And one film I am hoping to make in the next year has only one effect shot in the entire story, which will be done via a practical lighting and gel effect.

Cheers!
